BARC Tankard

I was not a naturally sporty person, but I took up rowing
while at University and fell in love with the sport. I then
joined Bradford Amateur Rowing Club, where I had many
happy years. My own piece of history is that I was the first
ever female Club Captain of the Club which was about 124
years old at that point. Women had only been able to
compete in rowing about 15 years before that, so it felt quite
an achievement, but looking back it’s astonishing that it
should be so unusual. I have many tankards like this, won
at various regattas on on the wonderful River Aire. BARC is
a special place on the edge of Bradford, and the City and the
Club will always be part of my soul.
